I am pleased to present to you the Cosmos Alliance.  The Alliance represents the culmination of my work in the fields of science, technology and business.  As Dean of the School of Medicine and Vice President for Health Affairs of the University of Rochester, Former Commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, and Former Director of the National Disaster Medical System I have come to realize the power of collaboration.  In the 21st century no single company or institution can expect to compete effectively without forming and utilizing partnerships.  Alliances will be the hallmark of success simply because the ever-growing complexity of our scientific research and technology necessitates multidisciplinary research and activities across company and organizational boundaries.

The Cosmos Alliance creates a new 21st-century paradigm for the development of breakthrough platform life science technologies that will become the cornerstone of the products, technology, and services of the 21st century.  The Cosmos Alliance focuses on: technologies involving basic and applied bio life sciences; the health, medical and regulatory aspects of development of new drugs; and medicines, supplies and equipment for counter terrorism, public health and population safety.

This new paradigm, creating direct relationships through a club concept, enables the Cosmos Alliance to facilitate the development of a “nest” with relationships among its members for furthering their respective business objectives.  The Cosmos Alliance provides a forum for companies that have developed breakthrough platform technologies and companies wanting to invest in these technologies to work together.  It also encourages interdisciplinary activities across bio life sciences, fostering information technologies, as well as nanotechnologies, which link science with innovative technology development, services, product implementation and commercialization.

I sincerely hope you'll find the innovative and creative concepts represented by the Alliance as engaging and challenging as I have.

Sincerely,

Frank E. Young, M.D., Ph.D.
